Improving silage-making techniques will be explored by Volac at Grassland UK 2018
As farmers strive to produce more milk and meat from home-grown grass, forage preservation experts, Volac, will be showcasing latest techniques to help make consistently better silage at this year’s Grassland UK event held on 10 May 2018, The Bath and West Showground, Shepton Mallet).
Multi-cut approach to silage making
Among these will be a new update on its Cut to Clamp initiative, launched last year to help producers get more from silage by focusing closely on six key areas – cutting, wilting, harvesting, treating, clamping and feeding.
New for 2018, the initiative features specific updates for the increasingly popular ‘multi-cut’ method of making silage – in which grass is cut earlier and more frequently to improve nutritional value.

Ultra low volume application
When treating with silage additives, Volac will also be helping producers make the most of the increasingly popular ultra-low volume (ULV) application method. This allows Ecosyl 100 additive to be applied in a volume of just 20 ml per tonne of grass, through a special applicator, as a way of reducing the number of fill-ups and reducing transport of water.

Also on the stand will be the company’s new range of user-friendly silage additive packaging – designed to offer improved ease of handling during busy fill-ups and when transporting on-farm, and improved characteristics during storage.
